Vintage Girl

I would describe my style as classic with a little bit of sexy so when I  was able to collaborate with vintage ship Voo Doo Vixen I was beyond excited . When I visited their  website I felt like I went back in time with a modern twist.  I have such a hard time making up mind and the selection was so awesome that it really made it quite difficult in a good way.  I finally decided on the Joanne how appropriate considering that's my favorite Aunts name. I love the classic lace and it the perfect midi length dress and it fit perfectly.  These are UK sized which runs a smaller than US sizing .  I decided to keep this look pretty classic to go with the vibe of this dress.  I was lucky enough to find the perfect shoes that really kept with this vintage theme from Kohl's and they were only $20 after coupons .  Let's really go back in time and add a scarf I could totally picture myself standing at the train station waiting for the love of my life come back from war.  If you a vintage lover like myself than you must shop Voo Doo vixen . These are quality pieces and delivery was pretty quick.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend and remember to stay dry and most importantly stay fabulous

Comfy and Cool

Summertime is that time of the year where for me life gets a little bit easier . No school for the kids sure they are involved in summer activities but at least the hustle and bustle of the morning is temporarily put on hold. That inspires me to get a little more relaxed with my fashion choices. Now I didn't say less cute but just a little less fuss. I think that wide leg pants and jumpsuits are a nice easy way to look put together with min effort and that is right up this Mama's alley this time of year!

My first look I decided to sport these fabulous Bar III pants that I found at Macy's and stalked  till I could get them at a deal and that is a gamble that paid off . I got these off the clearance rack for $13 after coupons..major score!  I love the way these things drape and that is not a easy feat with these hips honey. I added a simple tight white tee and my colorful Lucky Brand Neck Candy . I would totally wear this to lunch, the mall or sitting on someone's patio for a few lady drinks.. Lol

I believe it is a must for everywoman to own that jumpsuit that they can just throw on with a pair of sandals and still walk out the door feeling put together . I have has this jumpsuit for years and I have most certainly gotten my $12 that I paid at Sears for it. I have worn it out with heels, put it on with wedges for a little weekend shopping trip the possibilities are endless when you have staple piece .

My Perfect LWD

When I think of Summer fashion  the  very first thing that comes to mind is the white dress.  We all have that one or six  perfect LBD's in our closet rotation but how many perfect LWD do you have? . This is not your typical dress the netted overlay makes it pretty much perfect and with it being from Jcpenney  you know this dress is at a reasonable price  point.  The styling options are endless with this little number this time  I added a pop of blue with my shiny blue pumps from no other than Tar-Jay ($8 )and my fabulous collar necklace that was Tarjay steal as well($5) and my LWD dress got a little more fabulous!  Have you fashionista's  found your prefect LWD ? My Inner Carmen Jones

I have had such an obsession for off the shoulder tops and midi skirts this summer.  I fell in love with this Mango Midi skirt the first  time I laid eyes on it at Jcpenney.com.  I love the tropical pattern and what I thought was just a split in the front turned out to be that whole carwash style skirt. How sweet is that?  Now it was a little pricier than what I typically spend but that the beauty of Jcpenney rewards... I had 3 rewards and got it for such a steal.

When I added the off the shoulder tee to this fabulous skirt I instantly thought of Dorothy Dandridge in Carmen Jones.  She was so beautiful but had that sexiness about her. She walked around the room like she owned it. That  skirt gave me that same confidence and when it blows in the wind... honey watch out! LOL .

Have you found something that instantly gives you that boost of extra confidence ?

Easy Breezy Dress

I just love summertime that feeling of freedom enjoying those summer nights on patio sipping on something fruity my preference would be Coconut Ciroc and Pineapple juice ... LOL. It is important that I have some easy breezy pieces that I can just throw on and still feel good about myself in any situation.  I found the perfect little midi dress at Forever 21 the light gauzy material is perfect for those humid summer days in the Midwest and just right length for this 40 something Mama.  I fell in love with the burgundy color and thought it would be perfect to wear to my nephews open house and with it only being $15.90 I made sure I picked up a black one as well. I love that this dress could totally dressed up or down . I gave mine a little Cleopatra vibe by adding my gladiator sandals and gold jewelry. This look was simple and very inexpensive but most importantly I felt great in it.

What are your favorite summer looks? Is there a staple item that you tend to throw on for any occasion?

Moments in Life

What a weekend full of excitement and a little bit of sadness. My baby boy graduated from 8th grade which I know is not high school but it is end to something wonderful and the beginning of an awesome experience for him.  He is my baby we went through so much spending weeks down at Riley Hospital when he was 3 really strengthened that bond.  It has been just the 3 of us for years ( me and my babies) and the thought of them getting closer to leaving the nest fills me with mixed emotions. I am thankful that they are moving forward but a part of me knows that the moment of them leaving me is getting closer.  They are the most successful relationship I have ever had.  They love me no matter what.. I am special to them.. I'm Mom. I am so fortunate to witness them developing into you some pretty fantastic young adults. ( yes I'm partial).

Now this is how awesome my son is he even did the photography on his graduation day... Believe me it was not without protest .. Lol .

I wanted to leave you with this.. enjoy the moments , kiss them more, hug them more, watch tv with them more..because it just goes so fast and you will long for those moments.

My Look
I was inspired by Brooke from KB Styled when I saw her in this gorgeous organza yellow look on her blog . I originally wanted the coral shade but to my dismay they didn't have that in the store. They did have it online but when going into the store this yellow was marked down to $10.80 plus I had a 20% coupon so yellow it was.. and I also picked up the black one how could I not at this price! I styled this with simple white boat neck tee and added my a long necklace (also Kohls) and my J-LO shoes and my graduation look was born !

There is Something about May

I seriously can't believe that it is June already .. WTW.   Just like my Mom always said the older you get the faster time seems to fly by and she sure wasn't lying because May is like a blur to me.

Even though May was a hectic month for me it was a good month full of some pretty awesome moments.   I was honored to be chosen to be one the featured panelist at the Women's Empowerment Series 2015.  I was lucky enough  to be paired with one Indianapolis's best know stylist Coco Cuffie  to facilitate a class that focused on dressing for your body type and being fashionable on a budget and you know if I don't know how to do anything I sure can do that. LOL . Not only did I enjoy helping other people but I really learned so much from Coco and seriously that is what event's like this are about empowering other women.

There were so many awesome moment's at this spectacular event filled with celebrities , workshops , a fashion show with fashion by Nikki Blaine Couture and musical performances but I wanted to highlight  one of my favorite moments and that's when the keynote speaker Ms Iyanla Vanzant spoke to my soul and to every woman in the Indiana's Farmers Coliseum on that day in May . I left there with the words firmly implanted in me " Who I am Matters"  . I matter .. how I feel matters... what I want matters. Don't we as woman need to know this?    This event definitely was an excellent way to kick of May I am so thankful that the fabulous Karen Vaughn from 106.7 WTLC invited me to be part of such powerful event that was a game changer for me. I can't wait to attend next year.

I was still basking in the glow of all the great things that had been happening with me I find out that I am going to be in my local Newspaper about my NYC Jcpenney experience (here).   Can you believe I was pictured next to my style icon JLO honey.... and my picture was bigger than hers? Ok I know I am delusional but it's fun being that way sometimes.  I know my kids are over people asking them " Wasn't that your Mom in the Newspaper" It was nice having my 15 mins LOL.  See article here

And last but certainly not least.. I have been such a fan of Fashion Bomb daily blog by the fabulous Claire Sulmers and I was featured as Bombshell of the day! Awe shucks.. this little Byrdie from Indiana... ahh yes .  see here

Now I don't want anybody to think man this girl really likes to brag about herself but it feels good for me as a 42 year old woman to feel relevant . It's like when an artist gets someone that is interested in their painting or musician who get complimented on their voice . This is my art , my voice and sometimes  it does feel good that people actually care about how I styled that $10 dress .

One last thing before I do to bed.  Don't ever forget ..it is never to late to follow your dream. Even if people tell you .. you are to old...you are not skinny enough ... not pretty enough.. If there is something in heart that you have to pursue.. listen to that voice inside .. because just as the beautiful Iyanla Vanzant  "Who you are matters "
