October Favorites

Can you believe another month has come and gone so sad because it's my favorite one. Oh well, we are officially headed into the holiday season and let me tell you I am not ready.

I thought I would take this opportunity to share some my favorite looks for October and with shoppable links of the same or similar options. So let's get started.

I absolutely love sweater dresses and this color combo with the stripes had me at Hello!  I added these adorable boots that I picked up last year at an amazing price at my local Gordmans.

I have a thing for long cozy sweaters and the next 3 looks have that in common. They just create and cute and easy look with minimal effort.  It's for sure my fall staple and will be on constant rotation over the fall and winter months.

This leopard and red is one of all time favorites. I love that this gives the illusion of a jumpsuit but is really two pieces and this red duster from the Tracee Ellis Ross collection last year.

The Fab 40's in Goth

Well, here it is already the end of October and time for me to collaborate with my Fab 40 friends.  If this is your first time visiting than I will fill you in on what the Fab 40's is.  We are a group of bloggers from really around the world that come together once and month and come up a particular theme and create our own interpretation.

This month the lovely Suzy who lives in Portugal chose the goth theme.  Now I have to admit that Goth was not really my thing although I did go through a period in high school that my entire wardrobe was black however  I think that was mainly because I didn't want to stand out in any way, shape or form. You know how teenage girls can be it just takes one negative comment to crush your spirit.  When seeing all the other looks I think maybe my style was more Grunge than Goth so maybe I missed the boat on this one but the amazing thing about fashion it's truly an expression of your own personality so I guess I'll own it.

So instead of an all-black theme, I decided in true Mary fashion adding some color a red plaid shirt (here)with a whole lot of drama. It was love at first sight and literally stalked it until it came into the store and it was just as fabulous as it was when I saw it online.

I added black jeans with an unfinished hem, a black bag, and boots to keep the look darker but a statement necklace to balance the look with some feminity.

The great thing about this look is that everything except the top was under $20. The booties which are Nine West were $14.99 and my jeans that are Express only $6 at my local Gordman's. The bag a Target find only $15 and the necklace $4 from New York and Company.

What I love most about these collaborations it that I get to see how my fashionista friends bring all these themes to life and I am always amazed at what they come up. I always get inspiration from them every month.

Now let's see how the #FAB40's are bringing the goth!

Suzy from Suzy Turner Pixie Chic in Portugal selected this theme and she really knocked it out of the park I mean complete with a motorbike and all! She is giving us all the sexy goth vibes with the lace top and the tight overalls. You look amazing my friend!

Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots is also giving us sexy goth vibes complete with fishnet stockings and a faux leather skirt. I love everything about this look background included so perfect with her outfit choice. Love it, Jennie !

Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge is taking me back to high school with this look. Love the cutesy ponytails but then edges it up with the rest of her look. She makes me feel like I am going to a concert back in the 80's.  I love the way that you embraced this theme lady!

Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks amazes me with beautiful photography skills what a beautiful photograph. It's mysterious I could easily see this in a magazine and she looks reminiscent of Wednesday Adams but with a modern flair.  So glad to have you are a part of the Fab 40's lovely lady.

Sheela from Sheela Writes the first word that came out of my mouth when I saw this photo is Wow! I mean Sheela always amazes me with her looks every month but this dramatic photo is stunning. I love that she also brought plaid into the mix. Sheela as always girl you are killing the game!

Lizzie from What Lizzie Loves our guest blogger is giving us beautiful feminine vibes with this sheer dress fishnet hose and booties. This is a look that I am totally here for it is something that I could totally see myself wearing. Lizzie so glad to have you and you look gorgeous!

You can shop my look below or similar options

Thank you so much for stopping by it means so much to me! It's been another amazing time with the Fab 40s and I can't wait to see what November brings us!

Fall Uniform - Long Cozy Sweaters

Well as we near the month of October and yes my favorite month is almost over so sad the song! Sooner than later we are going to get into those snow cover days and that I am not o ta fan of.  The older I get the more I am thinking that this Byrdie should definitely fly south.

During these colder months, one of my favorite things to wear is the long cardigan it just makes life so much easier for me. It's a piece that is easy to throw on but helps you look totally put together.

This super cute and soft cardigan was on that I picked up from my local Gordman's and it was under $25 and such great quality. I can totally see myself wearing this over and over again.

I decided to style this with my over the knee boots that I purchased from express and my skinny jeans so an easy look that doesn't require that much effort so I look casual but put together when walking out the door and this fashionista is all about that life.

I am a lover of all things color and when I spotted this beauty at my local TJ Maxx complete with stripes and fabulous balloon sleeves I just knew that it had to come home with me and at $20 how could it not. It went perfectly with my new bag that was a birthday present.

And this gave me a total excuse to pull out my rose gold booties also from Express last year and I paired them with another amazing Gordman's find these cropped jeans that I scored for only $5.98 and I absolutely love them.  I love the all the treasures I find at that store so if you have one locally you should check them out.

Check out some of my other favorites and similar options below. I wasn't able to find the exact ones online some that are reminiscent of the ones I am wearing.  I have also included some on my wishlist.

Happy Friday and happy shopping :)

The Fab Five Fashionista's with Must Have Closet Trend

If I had to pick my number one trend for the fall it would most certainly be leopard so I was so excited about the latest collaboration with the Five Fab Fashionistas because of the leopard theme.

In my mind leopard is a neutral and an essential for my wardrobe and I love when I can add that pop of color to make this pattern even more exciting.  When we agreed on the leopard theme I wasn't sure what I was going to do and then I saw the lovely way that Tracee Ellis Ross was styled in that fabulous leopard jumpsuit at the AMA's I was totally obsessed.  She was like head to toe leopard topping off the look with a leopard beret which I did search high and low for but with no success.  So instead I added that pop of color, in case I decided on the color red. to give the fierceness that I was looking for.

What I love most about this look is that I was able to shop my closet and come up with a look without spending money and it was a look that I actually love. It's amazing the things that I forget that I have. What appears to be jumpsuit it really two separates from the JLO line at Kohl's that I got last year and still love.  No wonder I love this outfit so much two pieces from my favorite fashionista's JLO and Tracee Ellis Ross. Those ladies really show you how fabulous your 40's can be.

I topped off this look with my favorite Target booties that are oh so cute and also comfortable so much so I had to pick up the hot pink ones as well.

At 46 I am really at such a different place in my life my kids are damn near grown. My son a senior and my daughter a junior in college that is currently living her best life.  Seeing them grow up to come into their own it really inspires me to keep going for my dreams. I used to think that when I turned 40 I would be old I know that is young people thinking but honestly, the 40's have been the best for me. I have really come into my own discovering things about me that I never knew and gaining more self-confidence than I have ever had.

Well enough about me let's talk about my Fashionista sisters and the looks they are giving in their fabulous leopard ensembles.

Yolanda aka as Curly Petite Renee

I love that Yolanda and I are wearing those pops or red.  She took a basic leopard dress and created and made it simply fabulous . This look is giving me life girl!  I totally need this dress in my life! Love it beauty!

Lydia aka Chic to Street Style Mom

Lydia look is gorgeous as  she layers perfectly for the fall that makes a perfectly put together fall look with over the knee boots to die for. Love the girly vibes this is giving me yet still a hint of sexy.

Reyni aka Curls and High Heels

Reyni is giving her own pop of color with this lovely purple shade jacket. I am totally vibing with this combo the leopard pencil skirt giving us a classic yet sexy look and her Chanel type bag look completes this look well . This girl is ready for anything! Loves it sis!

                                                            Ayesha aka Emanees Closet

Ayeesha is giving us professional chic with her combo. I love the pattern mixing of it all and those boots are some that I need to add to my collection. This girl has a shoe collection out of this word. Loving the layering with the perfect flow.

So there you have it another month and theme with my fashionista friends and when I say, friends, we communicate like every day and not just about fashion but life and I am thankful for each and every one of them

Making your Own Rules -Fall Trends

Fall is in full swing and I am so here for it. I just love finding new ways to layer my looks and come up with creative ways to wear the fall trends.  That's the amazing thing about fashion there are absolutely no rules your style is all your own. It's great to get inspiration from women's who style you admire but it's always fun giving it your own personal flavor.

At first, I wasn't sure about the whole dress with pants look but it has really grown to be one of my favorite trends.

I was immediately drawn to this vibrant green color top/ dress when I spotted it at my local New York and Company and then the added plus was it had stripes and I love me some stripes. It also came in black and white but the green had me at hello!

I added a pair of my ponte high waist leggings to the mix so it created this comfortable and chic vibe.
This is actually the second time that I found a long top that I fell instantly in love with also from New York and Company. You can check the other lookout (here)

I really enjoyed accessorizing this look with different patterns and styles. I chose a gold statement necklace with black stones and pearls that a great $4 find at New York and Company. I always find such amazing jewelry pieces at great prices.

Adding the animal print shoes and bag to the mix mad really took it to the next level for me. When I was growing up that was an absolute no-no just like wearing white after Labor Day. I love it no rules and who made up those rules up anyway? Pattern mixing is my jam get this girl so excited and I love me some white after Labor Day .. Just sayin!

Now let's take about the deals. I got this Express clutch at my local Gordman's store.  I love that I can find brand names for much less at this store so many hidden treasures. If you haven't been there you definitely need to check it out!

The shoes were also an under $5 deal from my local Goodwill. I have really turned into a thrift lover so many treasures found like these brand new pumps that had never been worn!

October is my birthday month and for me it always a month of reflection and I look back at areas of my life and fashion is no different. I enjoy seeing on how my style has changed and evolved and with me turning 46 on the 22nd of the month I am wondering if I will approach my fashion choices any different.

With me being on the other side of 40 soon will I become more conservative? I hope not lol. I still plan on wearing what makes me feel great and that is not going to change. The great thing about life we always have the option of changing our mind and recreating ourselves.

You can shop this look below with many options including plus size .

As always I want to thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by it means so much and remember it is never too late to evolve or create your own rules in fashion or any area of your life.
