Unexpected Finds!

I have been away for a few days . I have been a very busy with kids stuff and we are short handed at work so I am doing double duty which makes for a very cranky Curly Byrdie.. it's been so hot and humid here in good old Indiana that I am more like Bushy Byrdie right now!  I am looking forward to this weekend it will be my first time thrifting ever and it is going to be a family affair! My Mom , sister, daughter and friend will participating as well. I see all these fabulous finds posted on instagram and as you know I am all about dressing on a dime.. and I mean that literally! LOL .

I was able to find some great deals Macys yesterday. I was on my lunch just browsing and I noticed that there cleareance shoes are 75% off plus I had a Wow pass to get additional 20% off!  I got these cute  Steve Madden Sandals I actually got these for $25.. I love them and I think they will be perfect transition shoes as the weather gets a little cooler. I also got 2 other pair of Sandles that I will style and picture later this week!

I thought my daughter looked so cute this morning that I couldn't wait to share her style. I buy the pieces and she puts it all together! That girl is going places I say :)

Kiss My Sass!

Between football games , housework and my other motherly duties I was able to get a workout in with one of my girlfriends and both of our daughters and of course our 15yr olds walked way behind us so we couldn't hear their conversation... like we wanted to anyway.. lol. I  wore my Nike Kiss my Sass t-shirt... which I need to make sure I'm at the right angle when talking to people I wouldn't want anyone to miss the S on the shirt.. LOL.. or maybe for some people I wouldn't mind them missing it..lol. I got this shirt last year and the minute I saw it at the Ladies Footlocker I knew I had to have it.. yes u guessed it I'm a smart mouth sometimes!  Now the Nike shoes are one the finds I blogged about in my Great day for Shopping blog. .. I wanted these shoes when they first came in at Jcpennys but there was no way my cheap self... I'm mean frugal self was paying $70 for them. I am single mom and I have to be realistic.. no $70 gym shoes for me. So when I went to 50% clearance shoe sale last weekend and saw them on the clearance rack and I had a coupon! Heck yeah they were meant to be mine. I was so excited  I had to share this find with my sisters and within hours they both had my same shoes as well as my niece... They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery but I am thinking more like "Stalkers" . I guess when I told them I got these cute Nike gym shoes for $19 they couldn't pass this up.. my `15 yr old was not impressed and there is no way she would be caught dead wearing shoes like her mothers.. her loss :)  I hope everyone is having a magnificent Monday!  So far so good here :)

My Lumberjack look :)

I was walking down aisle at Walmart when I saw a $5 clearance rack. I spotted  what I thought was cute checkered dress at the bargain price of $5. When I took it home and out of the bag my son says "Mom that looks like a lumberjack dress" . Man kids know how to kill your high for sure! LOL. I politely said " Mommy is going to rock this lumberjack dress"  and it was $5,  yea it was going to happen!  I like the fabric of this dress how it fits your body and it has ruching on the side and the back. I paired this with my Lauren Conrad vest and shoes from Kohl's .. I have just created my own version of a lumberjack look... not! LOL  . I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful Sunday! My son has his first game today and I am hype . I will support him even though he didn't support my fashion find! .. :)

Dress- $5 - this is older find
Vest - Lauren Conrad - $20
Shoes - Lauren Conrad -$18

Mad about Midi!

I am currently obsessed with midi length skirts and dresses. I think this length is so sleek and sexy! I wanted this dress in black originally but they didn't have my size so I settled on the navy . Now I did wear this with a jean jacket the first time I wore it. What I like about it is so simple you can dress it up or down.  I may have to order the black online!  There I go acting all greedy again!

Friday is Fabulous!

I don't know about you but Friday couldn't have come soon enough this week. It has been a struggle to get up extra early to get the kids to school this week. This weekend will be a weekend to recharge... and attempt to get organized.  My life is going to be hectic with football games, homework.. trying to get my workouts in!  I am going to try out a new gym this weekend " Anytime Fitness" I am in desperate need of gym home since mine closed at the beginning of summer. It was an all women's gym and I miss it so much.

My look today is a great casual Friday look.. I started off with the jean jacket this morning because it gets super cold in my office. Let me tell you about this jean jacket .. I was searching for a jean jacket this spring and  I ended up looking in Sears and I see this jacket marked $20 so I do my regular and scan it and it scanned at $1.99 ...the shopping goddess was with me that day .. LOL that is prob my all time best deal and has gotten the most wear.  I love wearing my jean jackets over Maxi dresses , skirts and any slacks I wear to dress it down a little. I hope all you beautiful ladies have Fabulous Friday.

Stripes to the Max!

The weekends always fly by so fast and I find myself on Sunday evening... trying to get prepared for the following week and it will be a busy one with the kids going to back to school! Where did the summer go what happened to the good ole days when the kids go back after labor day? My daughters first day is tomorrow and I will post a few looks that she has put together this week . These of course are cute looks  that do not break the pocket book. I guess the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree. She is becoming quite the frugal fashionista! Lol.

Well I did find some great deals this weekend for little ole me and I will post some of those as the week goes on.. starting with this look today. For some reason JCPenny got most of my attention this weekend with the $10 off $25 purchase this weekend. Which was esp good when they had their clearance shoes additional 50% off after 3 Friday.  Yeah I never get excited when I see clearance signs that say up to 50% off.. but when I see additional 50% off and I have a coupon! I will seriously stalk your racks ! LOL. There was no way I could keep these great finds to myself.. so I called my sisters and why did we all 3 end up with the same Nikes? My 10 year old niece even got a pair!  I swear it's are almost like that movie " Single White Female" stalking my closet.. lol.. It's a lot of fun.. I feel like we are like the Kardashians.. minus this money, the momager, the NBA husband and the clothing line..and the sex tape of course.

My look today was all stripes.. I love stripes especially black and white. Like polka dots they have such a classic look. I love the cut out in the back gives it a little sexiness but doesn't look trashy. I like the combination of the striped shoes with the dress.. it was a beautiful day today and the fabric was so light and airy.

Rockstar Belle!

I said earlier this week that I would post some of my daughters looks in honor of her her first week of school.  Anyone that knows her knows that Beauty and the Beast was her favorite Disney Movie growing up. She even dressed up like her for Halloween one year. So when she saw this shirt at Wet Seal she had to have it. I love how she paired it with floral skinny jeans and had her Chucks on with the leather cuff that gives it a little rock star flair. She has such fun with creating different looks that must be the artist in her :)

Curly haired Bumble Bee!

Whenever I wear black and yellow I feel like a bumble bee... or in this case a Steelers fan..not!!! Lol. I'm just like  my Daddy a Redskins fan or wherever Reggie Bush is playing this year ( Detroit).  Today is hump day and believe me I can see that light at the end of the funnel.. called Friday.  This has been a crazy week with the kids going back to school. My daughter seriously had 3 outfit changes this morning.. sounds like a chip of the ole block...and than finally going back to original.. there is only room for one indecisive woman in this house! LOL..

On a Curly hair note... As any Curly Hair girls know getting stretch is so important and I couldn't believe how much stretch had this morning. I went to bed in a pineapple that was damp and put a bonnet on .. when I got up hair was still damp so I sat under the dryer with the pineapple still in for about 15 mins.. and my curls were stretched. Now ladies don't think I thought of this on my own I was just to tired and lazy to take the scrunchie out!  Plus I was trying to eat my Corn Pops at the same time... the life a Mom... always multi tasking!

Now lets move on to details of my OOTD ! The Ponte pants were a steel from Kohls this weekend they were marked $7.20 and I had a 30% coupon! The thing I love of about this material is it hides all those lumps and bumps and for me at 40 that is must! This top I have in black and green also.. I love it and it was only $10 at JCP.. this a great staple piece that I have worn with Jeans, slacks , pencil skirts.. and the shoes were also from my shopping trip this weekend from JCP also they were $12.49 and than I had a coupon. I got these for like $8 bucks.. and I love them!  I wanted them in tan but of course they didn't have my size. In case you can't tell yet  when I love something I want it in different colors .. yes  I am greedy :)  I hope all you ladies are have a wonderful Wednesday!

Inspiration!

I really get so inspired by so many bloggers ideas and looks as well as the fashion posted on instagram! It is so fun looking at people express themselves through there fashion choices. It's a form of art.. I guess my daughter is not the only artist in the house! I noticed how people were using their denim looking shirts and  how they were revamping the look.. so this past weekend when I was out copping a few deals I got this chambray shirt from JCPenny and wanted to jazz up a piece I already had in my closet!  Now I got this one for about $9  and  I paired with this a colorful Maxi dress that I had gotten from Macys a few months ago .. and this is what I came up with.

Dress - Macy's- $13
Chambray shirt -Jcp Chambray Shirt- $ 9 with coupon

Time Flies!

It just seems like yesterday that I was crying when I was dropping my daughter off for her first day of Kindergarten now I have a 10th grader.. I keep telling myself that I am not getting old I'm just getting better.. LOL.. Now the one thing that I can say about this blog is that is has definately brought my daughter and I  closer and anyone that has a teenage daughter can understand the importance of this.. I have the passion for fashion and she has the artistic eye. It's obvious in the way she dresses. The entire family has always said she is an old soul... She loves old Hollywood ... Earth Wind and Fire, Prince  she can find pleasure in something from every decade. She shares my love of George Michael.... which would have to be explained in an whole entire blog.. LOL. I love her look today .. and we both picked out pieces for this look.  I hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!

Great Day for Shopping...the Kill!

I love Fridays.. and not just because its the last work day but Friday is beginning of  all the great deals for shopping . With all the late and early bird specials plus coupons its a win win! It is a shoppers true day in heaven. I start stalking the ads Thursday to see  how I will plan my Kill on Friday.  Now it's back to school time and the deal are awesome right about now.. and I am all over that!  If there is one thing Curly Byrdie can do is find the deals. Everyone in my family knows this. I do all the Christmas shopping for most people in my family.. Big George ( my Daddy) gives me $500 at Christmas and wants it to look  like he's spent $1000 on all 10 of his grandkids.. and you know what I get pretty close.. lol by the time Christmas is over I feel like I been working in retail! Every year I swear I won't do it again.. and there I am all over again... It's my hobby  and what can I say  I'm good at it.  Well I wanted to share my strategy for today's Back to School shopping this weekend. I am a single mom and I am cheap.. or should I say frugal that sounds way better.  Now when I say cheap .. I mean frugal..lol ,I don't mean picking up just anything just because it's $2... I don't do that.. it's a waste if I don't like it. Even if I am shopping for someone else I don't just pick up stuff just say " I got this only because it's $2" . It takes time and patience .. so lets get to it!

Friday and Saturday Kill!
Macys have Doorbusters from 9-1 where you get a extra 20% off on top of Sale and clearance. Also if you use BRANDS coupon code you save online. One steel I found on link to a dress I had blogged about recently on Summer Dress Sunday .  This Urban Hearts Dress is $11.99 and than you can use coupon code.
Kohls have Late Bird specials Friday Starting at 3pm and beginning Saturday at 7am -1pm. Also if you have a Kohls card you can use the additional 15 to 30% off . If not than here is a link for 15% off coupon.  Online code for 30% off when you have a Kohls card is Notebook30
Jcpenny have Night Busters starting after 3 and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday.  One of good deals going on there is additional 50% off all clearance Sandals all Worthington is additional 40% off.  Now I search online for a coupon and wasn't able to locate a printable coupon but low in behold in their ad there is a $10 off 25 purchase. Online code to get 20% up to 200 or 25%  over 200 is 4SAVE.

I hope you ladies are able to find some awesome deals today! If so comment and put me in the know. I will definitely post some of finds next week! Happy Shopping!

Transitioning!

As much as I love wearing tights , sweater dresses and boots I don't think I'm ready to hang up my sandles just yet. It feels cool outside her in Indiana but luckily for us is supposed to warm up in few days .. so I am thinking I should go ahead with my plans of getting a pedicure tomorrow!  My look today is would be considered a good transition piece from Summer to Fall. It's a light weight sweater dress that has one of my favorite color combinations Orange and Beige .. I have paired this with these Wedge Sandles that have mustard , beige and brown and finished it off with a bag to match..I got this bag at Kohls and let me say it looks expensive in person. I get so many compliments on this baby and I paid like $20 bucks.   I added a jean jacket to make it a more casual look.. I hope you ladies are thinking about the transition fashions from Summer to Fall. I will definately be posting more as time goes on!

Attitude Adjustment!

Yesterday I had to check myself!  I asked or should I say begged my 15 year old daughter to walk around the track with me to get some exercise in while my son was at football practice. She finally agreed and was on her phone texting the entire 2 laps she completed. Finally after being annoyed I told her she was free to leave.  Bottom line is why did I feel that is was necessary to have her there to get my workout in? After she left and I put my headphones on I finally got in my zone. Realizing that I only need to rely on myself to make this happen. Yes there were people staring.. not sure if they wanted me sit down somewhere or if they were thinking I should get my butt up and join her.. whatever it was I didn't care.  When I lost 45lbs with weight watchers it was because I took that journey . I held myself accountable I answered to that scale every Saturday for all my transgressions during that week and than I headed to the gym or to Kohls and than to the gym lol .  My Weight Watchers is in the same strip mall as Kohls... I know lucky me! . What I am trying to say is I am responsible for my own health and fitness. Don't get me wrong I love the company of my daughter ( when she isn't on her phone) and my sisters but in reality I get the best workouts when I am solo... My gym closed back in May and I have mostly been taking my workouts outside while it's nice but on the days when it's crappy there are enough  You tube videos that will prevent me from making any excuses. I also have devised this little system at work.. every time I go to the bathroom I get in 2 sets of squats, lunges , leg lifts or whatever I feel like doing. I know they wonder why does this woman take so long in the restroom?  Where there is a will there is a way! My daughter may join me tonight at the track but if she doesn't than I'm good!  I hope you ladies have a wonderful day!

Last Days of Summer

I heard from a little Birdie today that is supposed to get down to 49 degrees tomorrow in good ole Indiana. Yikes does that mean Summer is ending early? I hope not because I have plenty summer looks to blog about :) I am actually blogging not only about my great deal on this darling dress but I used some different hair products that I want to talk about.  So let's get right to it because time is money and I don't have either one to spare ;)

Look today! From Hair to toe :)
Dress is from H&M- $20
Shoes are from Target - they are old
Jewelry-  Kohls- Jennifer Lopez bracelet $10- ring New York and Company - old

Now lets move on to the Big Hair
Co Washed with TressSemme Flawless Curls
Leave in Conditioner Kinky Curly Knot Today
Defining and Hold with Beautiful Textures Curl Pudding

What I did like about this combo was my curls were light and soft, but it didn't give me as much hold as other combos I have tried. I have a feeling I will not get 2nd day curls out of this.

I hope everyone has  terrific Tuesday and enjoy the sunny weather.

Awesomeness!

This past weekend was an Awesome weekend. The simple things can really turn into memorable moments to treasure. I usually call one of my sisters to see if they want to get a little exercise in when I didn't get an answer I call my Mom to see if she would like to walk she accepted but of course I had to wait until she watches Dr Stanley . Dr Stanley is a pastor that is based out of Georgia that comes on Sunday mornings. My Mom hipped me to him a while back and to my pleasant surprise I found his messages to be very inspiring. After my Mom called I talked to both my sisters and when they found out our Mom was going they were immediately in. It was a beautiful day and just having us all there made it even more beautiful . We walked at a slower place but that was ok it gave us more time to take in the moment.  As I have learned after recently losing a loved one that these simple days are to be treasured.  As I get older I find there is nothing more precious than those small moments.

The shirt that I wore that day has Awesomeness on it . If I would have worn this shirt 20 years ago or even 10 years ago I would have been so paranoid on how people would take this shirt. Now at 40 years old.. I could give a crap... I always heard the older you get the less you care about other peoples opinions. Well I think I'm pretty awesome. I love my family, I'm a good mother, I love life and I am child of God  and that makes me the essence of Awesomeness! It's funny when I was at my prime... I felt the worst about myself.. Now settling into middle age I more self confidence than I ever had. It's a great feeling.. I don't care that my butt is big..I am shaped like a pear.. I got my big curly hair .. take me or leave me it's your choice but I am going to be me. All those things make me special ... they make me Mary!

My Big ole Hair

Ever since I was a little girl I have had this big ole thick hair. I remember my Mom washing my hair in the sink and hating every minute of it... and even worse was the combing out the tangles .. ouch! I used to ask my Mom why did I get this messed up hair why didn't I get straight thin hair like you and her reponse was one day you will be thankful for all this hair. Well she was right I am 40 years old and I finally embrace this big thick mane!
With me growing up in a predominately white school I always tried to keep my hair tamed. So I could look like everyone else. I did't realize that be being unique didn't make me weird it made me special .I remember getting my first relaxer at 15 I thought I was in heaven.. not realizing the damage I was doing to my hair. For years I spent countless hours and money in the beauty shop trying to acheive what I thought was idea of beauty. Not only was I trying to conform with my surroundings I was pleasing people in my family that view natural as Nappy or Uncombed.  Don't get me wrong I like getting my hair straightened once in while to show off the length but I have learned how to embrace my natural. No more do I have to cringe when  I see it raining outside. It's a very liberating feeling !
I am in love with this natural movement..websites like Naturally Curly are embracing the diversity that is really a gift from God.  I love that I can look on Instagram , Facebook and You Tube and find product reviews with people that have the same curl type I do.  When I look in the mirror on big ole frizzy hair day.. I now sing that Shameless Maya. I don't care about my frizzy hair and I rock those curls frizz and all honey!

Ok now that I am off my little soap box testifying! I would like to share the products that I am currently using .

Tresemme Flawless Curls- I use this as a co-wash and I leave a little in to comb through
Mixed Chicks Leave in Conditioner
Cantu Curling Cream
Organic Coconut Oil
Eco Argan Gel- I smooth this over all hair after other products have been applied.

And this would be the finished product! I switch of my products from time to time because guess what ?? Natural Girl now have options!

End of the day 100% dry!

Ready for Anything!

Its been a crazy day getting my daughter registered for school and son signed up for football! I can see that once again my life will not be my own ! But I couldn't forget to post my look for the day!

The dress is Alyxx from Jcpenny and after my $10 coupon this ended up being $20 bucks! The necklace($9) is Jlo from Kohls and the wedges($7)are Steve Madden from TJ Maxx . Also to give you fabulous ladies a heads up there is another coupon for $10 off $25 purchase going on right now! Take advantage of this deal! Have a terrific Tuesday!

Diva on a Dime!

I fell in love with this skirt the first time I saw it in Jcpenny  and lucky for me this was on sale plus I had a coupon! The possibilities with this skirt are endless with the variety of colors. The material is so flattering hides all those lumps and bumps! In this pic I have it paired with a peplum top which I love also .. I could also see this with a tank top and a jean jacket and wedges. I read a blog just last week that said before you buy something think about being able to use this 3 different ways and I could definitely restyle this various ways.

The skirt ($14) and the top($10) are both Bisou Bisou from Jcpenny. The shoes($20) are Worthington from Jcp as well. The necklace is old from New York and Company.

Black and White Sunday!

Another beautiful day in good ole Indiana! The kids and I enjoyed being outside and we had a tag along my sweet niece Maddie!
My look today is classic black and white with a few little trendy twists! The skirt is from Target ($14) the shirt is from Jcpenny it is Worthington. I love the fit of this classic shirt( $10). The shoes are 9 and co also from Jcpenny and I got these beauties for 10 bucks this weekend. The jewelry is from New York and Co a while ago.  I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as I did.

Vacation is Over!

Today I will not be talking about fashion but another subject that is a constant in my life and that is weight management.  I lost 45lbs on the Weight Watchers plan but after having a hysterectomy back in March I have since gained 6lbs back.  I would like to use that as the only excuse but I haven't be religious on tracking and to make matters worse my gym closed in May.  It was an all womens gym that I loved and had been there for my entire weight loss journey .Their classes were awesome and even more awesome was women being supportive of each other.
So Monday  I decided I was getting back on track.. I walked / ran with my 12 years on son for 3miles.. mostly walked I'm not going to lie!  Than Tuesday walked 3miles with my sister. I am now in the same mind set I was in when I started my journey at 206 lbs.. yeah honey I said 206 I own that number because I don't ever want to see that number again.. ever .. ever!  Most importantly I have start packing my lunch again with healthy snacks. From previous experiance I know there are going to be days  fall off a little but most important thing is getting back on that healthy bus.  I am ready to get this 6lbs off and maybe a little more.

The pic on right is me @200 a couple of years ago...the one on left is me at 156 back in May.
