This Girl Loves Polka Dots

If you have been following my blog recently you would swear this girl has a slight obsession with polka dots. I just recently featured a lovely polka dot skirt that I found at Jcpenney (here).

The  Red and Black high low skirt was my first purchase from this website She Inside.  I wasn't sure what to expect with the pricing being so cheap so I kept my fingers crossed . I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this skirt however the sizing ran a little small . I love the big bold polka dots and the full skirt I felt so girly but still on trend with the high low skirt . I decided to pair this with my Worthington bow blouse that I picked up on the clearance rack at Jcpenney with my sexy Sam and Libby shoes from Tar-Jay aka Target and this chic polka dot girl was born!

Are  you Fashionista's loving polka dots like I do?

Navy and Leopard Print .. Reflection

What I love about putting looks together is you can try new things and you just find out you actually like it. Now I have matched Leopard print with black, tan, burgundy  and red but I can honestly say that it never occurred to me to partner this with navy blue.  I instantly fell head over heels in love with this Navy dress that I scored from Carson's some ago and had an equal love for these fabulous J-Lo shoes from +Kohl's and it ended up being a match made in heaven! Oh how I love trying new things and discovering that I actually like the results!

There was a particular shot that really spoke to me and where I am in my life right now.  It was the shot of me looking in the mirror smiling. At 42 years old I am finally at a point in my life that I can honestly say that I love the person that is looking back at me.  For so many years I focused on what I didn't like about myself and forgot about all those things that made me unique, the things that made me Mary . When I was in my twenty's I was so critical of myself hated my hair , my hips and my butt.. and guess what? Big hair , big hips and butts are no in style ..LOL!  All jokes aside all the things that I used to hate about myself make me the Curlybyrdie I am today and I like that Byrd.. more and more everyday. Embrace who you are because there is no one in this world that can be a better you than
you!

Love at First Dot

There are the moments when you see something  and it's love at first sight and this skirt had me at Hello!  I knew I had to have it the minute that I saw it online at +JCPenney   . When I went to the store to try this sweet little number on I left it at there after my sister tried to convince me that I didn't need it but than I kept thinking about it so back to Jcpenney I went.   I can totally see me styling this so many ways this spring and I can't wait.
I remember back in day I would look in the Worthington section at Jcpenney's for some dress pants for work . Now I am all up in Worthington finding all kinds of cuteness!  I decided to style this with a simple fitted button down white blouse (Worthington also) add a wide belt and some booties and I felt like quite the Fashionista !   Have you ever went back for something that you just couldn't quit thinking about?

Blanket Style

There is something I have been on the search for the entire  fall and winter season and that is a blanket scarf and a wrap. I have seen so many fabulous ladies style this look making is super cute. So when I was in my one of my favorite stores +Kohl's and I walked past an 80% rack and found this chic blanket scarf I headed over the the scanner and it was $9.60 .. down from $50 and I had $15 #yes2you rewards it was definite yes for this frugal Fashionista. That is what I love about clearance shopping you just never know what treasures you will run up on.  I also was able to get a cheetah print wrap for the same price.. double score!  I styled this scarf for a day out with my favorite guy my 14 year old son.  I decided this wear this with my $20 DKNY jeans that I ran across at Carson's on one of their super Saturday deals not that long ago and my favorite OTK Simply Vera Wang boots that I am constantly wearing because they are so cute and oh so comfortable . What trends have you wanted to try this season that you haven't gotten to yet?

Go Red for Heart Disease

I recently attended an awesome women's empowerment event called the Makeover Conference . This was a great event and one subject that was covered that is dear to me and that was heart disease. The lovely Denise Jordan gave a presentation about the signs and symptoms and statistics.  I never knew that jaw pain was a sign of a heart attack as well as neck and back pain and that heart disease is the #1 killer of women!  We as woman often ignore pains or symptoms because we are so focused on taking care of everyone else.
I wish I could say that no one that I love is affected by heart disease but this a issue that is all to familiar with my family.  My aunt who is like a mother to me also attended this event has Cardiomyopathy her son my first cousin died from this disease when he was only 26. I had an uncle that battled heart disease almost his entire life and had a heart transplant that didn't survive..both of my Grandfathers had heart disease.  Even though some of my family members were born with these conditions it makes me want to live a healthier lifestyle and to be more aware on what's going on in my body.  So on Feb 6 I will be wearing red for my Aunt Joanne, my cousin Don, my Uncle Don, my Grandfathers Joe and Bob and my Uncle McKee.  Please join me in bringing more awareness to this disease and put your Red on!

Here is a little Red inspiration that you can use for Go Red day or even Valentine's Day

Makeover Conference- Empowered and Ready!

I got a makeover this weekend and I am not talking about a new hairstyle , makeup and clothes . I am talking about a change in attitude , some new pep in my step and I feel powerful! . How you ask? I attended this wonderful event " The Makeover Conference" right here in Fort Wayne , Indiana.  This event was orchestrated by two fabulous women Jil Jordan Greene and Denita Bell Washington who I had the pleasure of meeting.  We all have had those moments when you know you need to make some changes and you just aren't sure how. You are looking for some sort of jumpstart or as Jil would say a breakthrough !  If didn't think it was possible before than when you leave this event you will by certain it is!

This conference touched on many subjects from fitness and health , dreams and letting go of hurt. There were so many moments that touched me and if I wrote about them all this post would be going on for days so I will just touch on few. There was a beauty segment done by Toni Irby and Cynthia Black "Look the Life You Want" and this was not your typical beauty segment. We place such importance on beauty on the outside that we forget we need be just as concerned as what is on the inside. When Toni said to get ride of "Cemetery thinking" - dead thinking.. How often to we practice this? How often do we let other people put that kind of thinking in our mind? It is time for us to follow our dreams and have the self confidence to find our purpose. When Ms Denita Bell Washington took the mic her message really resonated with me.  We never realize how hurt from years ago can impact our life. It can affect your relationships or even the way we raise our kids. It is time for us to be supportive of other women living there dreams reaching their goals . I loved how I was embraced and felt welcomed when walking into this event. We were encouraged to mingle and get to know each other. I laughed , cried  and most importantly I learned .When I walked out I felt truly empowered and ready to live my purpose .

I can't wait to attend the next event on March 8 and I will definitely bring my teenage daughter along because I believe that women of age group will receive so much from this experience .If you are interested in attending this event please visit the facebook page here

Now in true Curlybyrdie style I had to give the 411 on my look because this deal is just to good to share. At the conference I was asked about my dress and believe me I was not ashamed to say I got this dress for $7  reg $40 from a recent haul at one of my favorite stores H&M  . I scored 2 dresses, 1 skirt , shoes , sweater and two necklaces for $37 now how sweet is that deal So if you haven't visited H&M lately I suggest you do it with the quickness.

Have an awesome week !
